Eftpos Cards
Effective 10 December 2024, Suncorp Bank will no longer issue new eftpos Cards.
- If you have a Suncorp Bank eftpos Card, the following changes will apply to you from 10th December 2024:
- If your Suncorp Bank eftpos Card is reported as lost or stolen, you will be issued with a Suncorp Bank Visa Debit Card.
- If your Suncorp Bank eftpos Card is damaged, you will be reissued with a Suncorp Bank eftpos Card with the same card number.
- If your Suncorp Bank eftpos Card is closed, you will no longer be able to obtain a Suncorp Bank eftpos Card.
- If your Suncorp Bank eftpos Card is expiring and you have not opted out of receiving a Suncorp Bank Visa Debit Card, you will be reissued with a Suncorp Bank Visa Debit Card.
From 10th December 2024, Suncorp Bank will no longer issue new eftpos Cards to comply with expectations from the Reserve Bank of Australia to exclusively issue Dual Network Debit Cards, such as Suncorp Bank Visa Debit Cards.
Suncorp Bank Visa Debit Cards offer a quick and convenient way to pay with your own money and allow you to select your preferred payment network when you complete purchases by inserting your card chip in a payments terminal:
- To process purchases via the Visa network: Select “credit”.
- To process purchases via the eftpos network: Select “savings” or “cheque”.
Yes, Suncorp Bank eftpos Cards issued until the 9th December 2024 will continue operating as usual.
Suncorp Bank eftpos Cards:
- Can be used for purchases across Australia or to get cash out at ATMs.
- Allow eftpos Tap & Pay purchases under $100.
- Can be used with your iPhone or Apple Watch with Apple Pay®. However, your Suncorp Bank eftpos card added to Apple Pay cannot be used to make purchases within apps, on the web when you see Apple Pay as a payment option, or for Apple Pay transactions overseas.
It helps to think of an eftpos card as a way to access your money, instead of using cash. You need to be present to use your card – like in a store. A Visa Debit Card allows this too, but also lets you make purchases online and overseas.
Here’s how both eftpos Cards and Visa Debit Cards compare:
- Safety: Both Suncorp Bank eftpos and Visa Debit Cards are embedded with the latest EMV microchip technology, which provides both data protection and reduces card fraud, for greater protection.
- ATMs: Both Suncorp Bank eftpos and Visa Debit Cards let you withdraw cash from ATMs, local post offices, and supermarket chains.
- On the go: A Suncorp Bank Visa Debit Card lets you pay with Visa payWave, Google Pay and Apple Pay. With a Suncorp Bank eftpos Card you can pay with eftpos Tap & Pay and Apple Pay.
- The web: You can shop online with a Suncorp Bank Visa Debit Card, but Suncorp Bank eftpos Cards are for in-person transactions only.
- Region: Suncorp Bank eftpos Cards can be used in Australia only, whereas you can use Suncorp Bank Visa Debit Cards internationally as well.
